A place of respect and grace

Studio Policies

Our policies exist to create a safe, respectful, and productive environment for every student. Please read through these guidelines carefully. By enrolling at Messiah Dance Theatre, families agree to abide by these policies.

Attendance

  • Regular attendance is essential to a student's progress. Please make every effort to attend all scheduled classes.
  • If your child will be absent, please notify the instructor in advance by email or phone.
  • Students who miss more than four classes per semester may not be eligible to participate in the Spring Performance.
  • Make-up classes may be available at the instructor's discretion. Please contact us to arrange.
  • Students should arrive 5–10 minutes before class and be picked up promptly at the end of class.

Dress Code

  • Proper dance attire is required for all classes. Please refer to the Class Descriptions page for attire specific to each class.
  • Hair must be pulled back and secured away from the face for all classes. Ballet students must wear hair in a bun.
  • No jewelry is permitted during class, with the exception of small stud earrings.
  • Street shoes are not permitted on the studio floor. Students should change into dance shoes upon arrival.
  • Modest, form-fitting attire is required. Clothing should allow for freedom of movement while reflecting our Christ-centered values.

Student Conduct

  • Students are expected to treat instructors, fellow students, and studio property with respect at all times.
  • Disruptive behavior, disrespect, or bullying of any kind will not be tolerated and may result in dismissal from class.
  • Cell phones must be silenced and put away during class time.
  • Students should enter and exit the studio quietly and be ready to begin class when the instructor starts.
  • We ask that all students and families reflect the love of Christ in their words and actions within our studio community.

Parent & Guardian Guidelines

  • For the benefit of student focus and instructor effectiveness, parents are asked to wait in the lobby rather than observing class, except during designated observation weeks.
  • Observation weeks are held once per semester. Dates will be announced in advance.
  • Please do not interrupt class to speak with the instructor. Questions and concerns may be addressed before or after class, or by email.
  • Children should not be left unattended in the lobby before or after class. Messiah Dance Theatre is not responsible for unsupervised children.
  • Please keep the lobby quiet and respectful of classes in session.

Spring Performance

  • Participation in the Spring Performance is encouraged for all students but is not mandatory.
  • Students wishing to perform must meet the attendance requirement (no more than four absences per semester).
  • Costume fees are separate from tuition and will be communicated in February. Costumes must be paid for by the stated deadline to guarantee availability.
  • Rehearsal attendance is mandatory for all students participating in the Spring Performance. Dates will be provided well in advance.
  • Photography and video recording during dress rehearsals and performances is subject to guidelines communicated at that time.

Photo & Media Policy

  • Messiah Dance Theatre may photograph or video students during class, rehearsals, and performances for use on our website and promotional materials.
  • If you do not wish your child to be photographed or filmed, please notify us in writing at the time of registration.
  • Parents may not photograph or video other students without the consent of those students' families.

Health & Safety

  • Please keep your child home if they are ill. Students who appear sick upon arrival may be asked to sit out or go home.
  • Notify the studio of any injuries, medical conditions, or physical limitations that may affect your child's participation.
  • Students should bring a labeled water bottle to every class. No food is permitted in the studio.
  • In the event of an emergency, we will contact the parent or guardian using the information provided at registration. Please keep contact information current.
